Windsurfing

 

How about a day of practicing windsurfing on the warm waters of Delray Beach?

You can learn all the basics on our land simulator before getting wet, then have our knowledgeable staff set you up with a board and sail that fit your level. Of course, life jackets and harnesses are included with all rentals at no extra charge.

The best part is all the sails are rigged up and ready for you just feet away from the beach - all you have to do is pick one. We have a range from 1.7m² to 7.0m² for those light wind days.

Locals: If you own your windsurfing gear, you can store your equipment in one of our storage rooms for $100 per month. The facility is set up for easy storage of rigged gear so all you have to do is show up and put your mast and board together. 

Our favorite board for beginner to intermediate levels is the Starboard Start, because it's very wide and stable plus it has a soft foam deck which makes learning all around fun and easy. Windsurfing should have been this easy 20 years ago!

Once the winds pick up a bit, progress to the Starboard Go or the Bic Techno for the intermediate sailor practicing those jibes. We are lucky at Delray Beach Water Sports Rentals that our beach is all sand. No rocks or reef to deal with - just warm tropical waters and a sand bottom.

Of course, if it gets a little windy out and the ocean gets choppy the more advanced sailors can choose from some smaller boards such as the new Drops Bombers (some of the best boards I have ever felt under my feet) and some popular F2 short boards. 

However, since we are located directly on the Atlantic Ocean we are subject to some days of onshore wind and occasionally strong to rough shorebreak, when we do not rent windsurfing equipment for safety and damage reasons.

But if you have your own gear, come on down and sail with the locals - our spot on the beach is a popular East Coast windsurfing spot so join us some windy afternoon.

There is parking close by, a grassy rigging area just steps away, and easy access for launching. So give us a call and find out the wind and wave conditions that day and see if they are right for you.

Remember, the conditions change from day to day, so if it's good, take advantage of it, and come have fun!
